Under The Everlasting Mercy of God

Posted on September 13, 2021September 13, 2021

What is Mercy?

Mercy is kindness shown towards someone whom you have the right or power to punish.
Mercy is also kindness, that makes you to forgive someone.

In the Bible, God’s mercy means His COMPASSION, FORGIVENESS, UNDERSTANDING, and KINDNESS towards people.

His mercy is also about HEALING and COMFORTING us in times of illness and tribulations.

God the Father showed mercy on us when he sacrificed his Son, Christ Jesus, on the Cross to pay the price for our sins.

“Have mercy on me, O God, according to your unfailing love; according to your great compassion blot out my transgressions.” — Psalm 51:1 .

Jesus showed MERCY by choosing to LOVE rather than CONDEMN.

There is MERCY towards the BODY and MERCY towards the SOUL.

There are seven acts of mercy which concern the body (The Corporal Works of Mercy) and seven which is relevant to the soul (The Spiritual Works of Mercy).

Corporal Works of Mercy

The Corporal Works of Mercy are those kind deeds, by which we help others with their material and physical needs.

Jesus gives a list of mercies that we should do to our fellow human beings so that we are blessed and can enter the Kingdom of God.

In a nutshell…the physical acts of mercy are:

1 Feed the Hungry
2 Give drink to the thirsty  3 Clothe the naked
4 Shelter the homeless
5 Comfort the imprisoned
6 Visit the sick.
7 Bury the dead

The Bible says, “If you spend yourselves on behalf of the hungry and satisfy the needs of the oppressed, then your light will rise in the darkness, and your night will become like the noonday.Isaiah 58:10

Spiritual Works of Mercy

The Spiritual Works of Mercy are acts of compassion, by which we help our neighbors with their emotional and spiritual needs.

  The works include:

  1. To instruct the ignorant. Mathew 16:15
  2. To counsel the doubtful. John 14:5-14
  3. To admonish the sinners. Luke 17:3
  4. To bear patiently those who wrong us. Luke 6: 27-28
  5. To forgive offenses. Matthew 6:12
  6. To comfort the afflicted.Matthew11:28
  7. To pray for the living and the dead. John 17:24
